Birthday Coins

Coins celebrating the birthday of a ruler originated in Roman Imperial times, notably the reigns of Maximianus (286-305) and Constantinus I (307-37). In recent years, crowns have been issued to mark the eightieth and ninetieth birthdays of the Queen Mother and in 1996, the seventieth birthday of HM the Queen.
